Description: In 2003, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Water Supply undertook a 5-year initiative to improve fishing by boat on its water supply reservoirs and controlled lakes in upstate New York. The project includes: revising administrative procedures; cleaning up boat fishing areas on reservoir shores; improving two-way communication with anglers; inventorying, assessing and improving boat storage areas; and creating a longterm management plan for deep-water fishing access. A focal point of the project is the development of Boat Area Rapid Assessment (BARA), an evaluation tool for establishing boat storage area carrying capacities.
