Description: Because of increasing demands for timber and changing utilization practices, chippable residues are now marketable products. Timber appraisals, therefore, should consider not only volumes o f lumber anticpated but also amounts (weights) of chippable residue produced when processing sale trees. Some information is available on saw-log weight and amount of chippable residue produced from trees and logs of certain hardwood species (King 1952; Callahan and Nacker 1970; Timson 1972; Phillips 1974; Phillips et al. 1974), but no information is available on amount of chippable residue produced from the merchantable stem of yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.).
