Description: This paper demonstrates how a digital video camera with a long lens can be used with pulse laser ranging in order to collect very large-scale tree crown measurements. The long focal length of the camera lens provides the magnification required for precise viewing of distant points with the trade-off of spatial coverage. Multiple video frames are mosaicked into a single super-resolution image to increase the spatial coverage. Upper-stem diameters are the examples given here, but the technique may be generalized to other dimensions of interest.
