Abstract: The scientific literature concerning oak regeneration problems is lengthy, complex, paradoxical, and often perplexing. Despite a large scientific literature and numerous conference proceedings, there are still clearly problems with the transfer of oak regeneration technology to practicing foresters. Too few managers and researchers are well founded in oak ecology, and oak silviculture is far too complex to relegate to "standard" prescriptions. If researchers do not effectively convey the information they already have about oak regeneration, they may not be facing as much an oak regeneration problem as an information management (people) problem. This hypertext document on oak regeneration is an example of a knowledge organizing, synthesizing, and delivery tool using the most powerful knowledge synthesis technology available today. Ito oak regeneration hypertext provides the reader with an introduction and background section explaining the problems concerns oak regeneration, as well as sections detailing oak regeneration biology and management. The disks contain a fully operational hypertract doattnent for IBM PC compatible micro-computers running Microsoft Windows 3.1 or the Windows 95 operating system.
