Description: Records of 21 stations were analyzed for the occurrence, persistence, and related visibility resulting from summertime wildfire smoke and haze in interior Alaska. Maximum probability of smoke occurrence for any station and month was 8.7 percent in July for Bettles. Seasonal occurrence of smoke was greatest for Tanana3.3 percent. Smoke persistence and visibility reduction were not found to the extent previously assumed.
