Title: Predicting wildfire behavior in black spruce forests in Alaska.

Description: The current fire behavior system, when properly adjusted, accurately predicts forward rate of spread and flame length of wildfires in black spruce (Picea mariana (Mill.) B.S.P.) forests in Alaska. After fire behavior was observed and quantified, adjustment factors were calculated and assigned to the selected fuel models to correct the outputs to more nearly coincide with observed values. Spotting distance models predict maximum spotting distances if some corrections and assumptions are made. Field-tested procedures are described.
