Description: On eight islands of Vanuatu archipelago, sandalwood stands have been heavily exploited since the late 1800's. Because of the over-exploitation, which worried the Vanuatu Government, a moratorium was imposed in early 1987. The status of the valuable wood and the beginnings of research into one of the country's potential commodities are reviewed.
