Title: On the palladium-on-charcoal disproportionation of rosin

Author: Song, Zhan-Qian; Zavarin, Eugene; Zinkel, Duane F.;

Date: 1985

Source: Journal of wood chemsitry and technology. Vol. 5, no. 4 (1985): pages 535-542.

Publication Series: Miscellaneous Publication

Description: Changes in the composition of gum rosin during disproportionation in the presence of 5% palladium-on-charcoal have been determined by gas chromatography. The principal reaction product was dehydroabietic acid. The exocyclic vinyl group of the pimaric/isopimarictype resin acids was hydrogenated completely. Only a small amount of dihydroabietic acids was formed. Eight dihydro resin acids were identified. No tetrahydro resin acids were observed.

Keywords: Charcoal, emulsifiers, palladium, resin acids, rosin, dehydroabeitic acid
