Description: Tree improvement research at the Lake City (Florida) Research Center of the Southeastern Forest Experiment Station is aimed primarily at improving oleoresin yield of slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm. ). The wide range in variation of this trait among individual trees is already being utilized in the improvement of the species. The results of intraspecies hybridization have been reported by Mergen (1954), Mergen et al. (1955), Bourdeau and Schopmeyer (1958, pp. 313-319), Squillace and Dorman (1961), and Squillace and Bengtson (1961).
