Description: With the increasing prices of lumber, pallet manufacturers and recyclers are looking to squeeze every dollar out of their operations. A recent study on stringer repair reveals another potential area of the business that may be squeezed. The study by Dr. Marshall White, director of the pallet and container research laboratory at Virginia Tech, shows broken stringers can be recovered by splicing segments with metal connector plates. The research was funded and sponsored by the USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station.
