Description: Proper site selection, good site preparation, correct planting practices, and 1st-year cultivation directly and indirectly affect survival rate of trees. Losses from canker fungi are minimized by cultural practices that increase tree vigor--poor tree vigor means more cankers per acre and greater mortality.
