Description: The Olympic Wilderness was established November 16, 1988 when President Ronald Reagan signed the Washington Park Wilderness Act. A total of 876,447 acres or 95% of Olympic National Park (OLYM) was designated as wilderness and became a part of the National Wilderness Preservation System, wherein wilderness character would be preserved. The purpose of this project was to develop an approach that spatially depicts the condition of Olympic's wilderness character qualities and how they vary across the Olympic Wilderness (Figure 1).
