Description: This paper is a brief summary of the natural history and importance of the insects of Puerto Rico. We briefly discuss the orders of insects present in Puerto Rico and some of their families. Where possible, we have tried to avoid technical terms for better comprehension of a general audience. We present the observations or characteristics of insects that humans admire. Our intent is that this paper serve as an introduction for students, teachers and those with interest in insects and maybe motiviate some of them to dedicate themselves to the study of this group of animals that is so succesful on our planet. Este trabajo es un breve resumen de la historia natural y la importancia de los insectos de Puerto Rico. Discutimos brevemente los ordenes de insectos presentes en Puerto Rico y algunas de sus familias. Dentro de lo posible tratamos de evitar los terminos tecnicos para que pueda ser comprendido por una audiencia general. Presentamos aquellas observaciones o caracteristicas de los insectos que logran la admiracion de los humanos. Nuestra intencion es que este trabajo sirva como lectura introductoria a estudiantes, maestros, a los estudiosos por placer de los insectos y quizas como motivacion para que algunos se dediquen al estudio de este grupo de animales que tanto exito tiene en nuestro planeta.
