Title: Tree Sizes Harvested in Different Thinnings -- Another Look

Author: Mann, W.F. Jr.; Feduccia, D.P.;

Date: 1976

Source: Res. Pap. SO-131. New Orleans, LA: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Southern Forest Experiment Station. 6 p.

Publication Series: Research Paper (RP)

Description: In loblolly planted at 10 by 10 feet, light- and medium- thinned plots had slightly more sawtimber-sized trees and board-foot volume than unthinned checks and heavily thinned plots at all ages. Average diameters of all trees were largest on checks, followed by light-thinned plots. Trends were similar for 32-year-old slash pine planted at 6 by 7 feet.

Keywords: Diameter distributions, average diameter, Pinus taeda, Pinus elliottii
