Publication Series: Research Paper (RP)
Description: Diameter distributions and yields for various combinations of site index, age, and density for unthinned and largely undisturbed stands of yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L. ) have been presented by McGee and Della-Bianca (1967) and Beck and Della-Bianca (1970). Their results were based on the initial measurements of a network of permanent sample plots throughout the southern Appalachians. In this paper we present equations for predicting basal-area growth and cubic-foot volume growth and yield in stands thinned to various levels of basal area. These results are based on measurements of the permanent plots taken 5 years after the initial thinnings.
