Description: Alabama has a larger inventory of both softwood and hardwood and a greater output of timber products than any other State in the Midsouth. Forest-related activities comprise a major portion of the State's economy, and forest resources have been assessed intermittently since 1935. The most recent survey was made in 1972 (Murphy 1973).
